Hydrotheraphy...

Hydrotherapy for dogs is a great way to keep your dog fit and healthy. We swim all of our Akita's, whether it is just before a show to get that bit extra or for one of our bitches that has had a litter of puppies recently and needs to tone up.As with people swimming is a great workout, which works all the muscles without putting any added pressure on a dogs bone structure, making this a great form of exercise if your dog suffers from stiff muscles, is overweight, pre or post surgery or requires toning up. Also lets not forget that it is also really good fun for them as well.

Since swimming our Akitas we have really noticed the difference, not just with the muscles you can now really see and feel, but with there movement as well. Keeping a dog fit also makes the dog a happier dog, making them easier to train, obey, work and live with. All our Akitas have daily exercise with hydrotherapy as a substitute for that day. A 20 minute swim with jets on is equivilent to a 20 mile walk, they all swim at least once every 2 weeks and sometimes more. You can swim your dog as early as 16 weeks as this a low impact form of exercise. When one of our girls is pregnant we also swim them up until they either really don't want to any more due to ther size or up to about 7 weeks in. This type of exercise is great for taking the weight of their joints and keeping them toned ready for the birth of their babies.
